messing with his mind

Poor Mr McMuffin, can you sense the unease in his last post? As a dutiful wife I like to anticipate his needs and wants to make life as smooth for him as possible. However I'm not sure he truly understands this central plank of our relationship. Don't you think he sounded a little shocked that I encouraged him to get his little gadget thing? It almost seemed as if he expected me to have a say in the matter. This bothers me immensely. What kind of little woman would I be if I made him seem less of a man by expecting him to involve me in purchasing decisions? He is the head of the house, the provider and needs his techno thingies to relax, every good spouse should know this.

All this worried me so much that I gave the tupperware a good clean, and sewed some new gingham curtains. What is the world coming to if men ask women what they think? Before you know it women will be aping men-going out to work, earning their own money, having control of their own lives. I think that this is a greater threat than the axis of evil that nice Mr Bush talks about. Golly, I hope my children don't grow up thinking men and women can be equals. Anyway I must go now, I think Mr McMuffin needs me to gaze at him adoringly for the next ten minutes.

me and my ipod...an update

I am still very much loving my iPod. Since the 20 November I have spent every day feeding it new music and it is still not satisfied. I have given it 4518 songs, or 12 days of continuous music, and yet it wants more. Will it never end? I still have a couple of boxes of CDs upstairs, but what then? I have worked out that I will be able to get my entire music collection onto 8 DVDs. I love the future.

The only problem for me is that I have discovered the joys of iTunes, and all of it's organising capabilities. It is an anal dream come true. I will now have to spend the next year cataloguing my collection and ensuring that I have all of the album artwork etc...I think I might have to give up work if I am going to do it properly. I haven't mentioned this idea yet to Mrs McMuffin, but I am sure she will understand why it is necessary.

wow

Just have a look at this. Someone has gone to a lot of bother to produce this great advert for the NS-5 'the world's first fully automated domestic assistant'. And it is fully three laws safe, for those of us who understand these things.

ugly

I'm a bit bothered that we have so much stuff in the sidebars. While I like them individually, I don't like the look of them all together. What to lose? I quite like the flags, but the pixie is already getting on my nerves and Mr McMuffin is bothered by the graphics too. I think he's going a bit bonkers as he suggested the antidote to all the ugliness was a picture of us! No, no, no, I like our 50's couple, they look a bit like our parents when they were young and good looking.

Today I have been bored beyond belief. I had to attend training on the new database that's replacing our antique one over the Easter holiday. The 'trainers' are very nice, but are getting angry with us as we're going 'too fast'. I have been getting told off a lot for getting ahead of the schedule. I am not a genius, so if I'm finding it easy, then it really is easy. I would like to suggest to them that they are going too slow, but we get off early, and I don't want to lose this privilege. However it is so dull I have been tempted to end my own life by banging my head against the monitor, and even emailed a suicide note to my colleague. It would be slow and painful, but not as slow and painful as this course.

I feel bad now, my sister has just come round and told me some bad news about our friend's mother. I've changed my mind. I'm going to embrace this training, and the rest of my life.

iSight...two way

david

We have just had a two-way [Mrs McMuffin, correctly, points out that the conversation was in fact three way...but who really cares what she has to say?] with David TEFLSmiler in his new home in Denmark. It was fantastic, although we did struggle with the slight delay. We kept cutting across each other. It has to be said that it was mainly Mrs McMuffin who seems to have lost most of her social skills as she has got older. I can get away with that because she laughed as I typed it! David is our hero. The bravest person. The first person to expose himself via the internet. I don't mean that in a bad way.

this is the future...

dictionary

I am very excited about a little programme that I downloaded off the internet call LiveDictionary. I'm sorry for all you Windoze users, but it is a Mac only app. It is a Safari plug-in which automatically searches for the definition of a word when you hold the cursor on it. Hold the cursor on a word and up pops a window with the definition. It allows you to translate in a variety of different languages, although that feature is a little slow. It costs $25, and I almost want to buy just to support the writer. This is the future.

what have I done...

I thought I would try out the new OnSPEED service, which apparently can speed up your dial-up connection as much as five times, and a broadband connection by up to three times. After a bit of fiddlying around, the good news is that it actually seems to work. Our connection did speed up, but only by sacrificing the quality of the images we downloaded. I decided to get rid of it. Followed all the instructions. And now it is gone. However, I am now writing this using Netscape. Neither Safari or IE will connect. I have reinstalled Safari, but it has made no difference. I don't what to do now. Bloody OnSPEED. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this mess. I imagine it is some little file somewhere that has been changed. If only I knew which one. Help me...

i am great...

Worked out what was wrong. OnSPEED had done something to the proxy settings. Which kind of makes sense because it works by routing everything through its servers and compressing the data. I love the fact that I can spot what is wrong when I finally see it. All those years of playing with computers has paid off. I really do think I deserve a 30" Cinema Display. Roll on the next problem. Although, I do have to say here for all you Windows users, I rarely have any problems on my Mac, and when I do, it usually pretty clear that it is something I have done, rather than some mysterious interaction between apps. Just thought I'd say that.

Despite my little problem, I think OnSPEED actually works, so for all of you on a slowish connection, give it a try. I was so impressed that I am even going to provide a link to their site.

Oh, and by the way, for some reason, the full TypePad posting toolbar, which I thought was only available to Windows users, IS available to Mac users if you connect using Netscape. I really don't understand that one.

favicon...

Hey...I made a favicon. You will all have seen these before, these are little icons that appear in the address bar and next to your bookmarks, or favourites. For some reason it has taken a little while to show up in my Safari browser, but there it is now. Can everyone see it?

i also made...

I am very pleased with myself. I have made an icon for my new camera, so that it shows up in iPhoto when I connect it. Not much cleaning getting done here.
