little britain

I don't normally go silly about tv, but I loved 'LittleBritain'. I have been driving everyone mad by going round saying, 'I am the ONLY Gay in the village' all day. If this makes me a sad figure, then so be it. I know what makes me laugh.

I am sitting here typing with the Slink on my lap. He seems to be under the mistaken impression that I can give him access to food, and was waiting on the doorstep for me. Do anti stalking laws apply to cats? Anyway he stops screaming if I pick him up or let him sit on me, so that's what he's doing.

I made reference yesterday to some interesting things I could write, but I have reconsidered this. Surely the point of a blog is to let your friends know about the inconsequential trivia of your life? In any case if I wrote something really good one time, it would raise expectations and I would be forced to try and repeat it. That sounds like a very bad idea. For example if Mr Rock (sexydancingpornoboy) Cake was to write about his kayaking in Nepal then my life would seem even more dull. Anyway, reading something boring by me is a public service-you should feel inspired to be creative or do something interesting.

the west wing

I have just seen my first episode of The West Wing. For some reason we have never been able to get our act together enough to watch it when it has been on TV. However, we bought the first two series on DVD in the sales after Christmas. It really is fantastic. I would vote for President Bartlett, in fact I am thinking of starting up a campaign to get him elected here in the UK. What a wonderful humane man he is. It got me thinking about George Bush. Is there a side to Mr Bush that we don't see in the UK, a side that is more apparent to those who live in the US? I have been looking at some blogs and it seems there are Americans who love Mr Bush and think he is doing a good job. My first thought when I see these is that they are poor deluded fools, but perhaps I am missing something...Anyway, I can't wait to return to the White House...

Talking of sales...I also got four series, all but the first, of Sex and The City on DVD today. They only cost £15 a series, which was too cheap for me to leave. Can't wait to watch them all again.

My viewing cup runneth over...

Angel no more...

A4newcast-bw.gif

I have been shocked to find out that the network are thinking about putting an end to Angel. I am beside myself with grief. This is easily the best programme on TV at the moment, now that Buffy has come to an end. Please help Angel.

battlestar galactica

Battlestargalacticaonesheet.jpg

We just watched the Battlestar Galactica mini series, and what can I say...it was brilliant. We were gripped from begining to end. Gone are all the silly chrome bits and the terrible 70s design and in comes a much more realistic military look. The Cylons look great, although we didn't get to see much of them. Apparently, the SciFi channel has commissioned a new 13 part series to start in December 2004. I can't wait.

more daleks

Mrs McMuffin was insistent. This is the stuff of nightmares...apparently. You can also download a bit of the original 1963 theme music from here, or if you are really brave, you can relive those moments of Dalek terror here and here. Don't be afraid to go to sleep tonight...be very afraid!

making faces

I was hypnotised by the TV tonight and then Mr McMuffin came in, asked what poo I was watching and got hypnotised too. It was a show from the US called 'Extreme Makeovers' where ugly people get plastic surgery and less radical interventions (such as a bit of sorely needed fashion advice) and are transformed.

They looked great, seemed confident and were a lot happier than they had been before. I wanted to despise this show, now I want to be on it. Well only if I don't have to have surgery, obviously.

A good night's sleep seems to have improved my looks, but not my mood. Mr McMuffin drank a bit too much wine last night and couldn't be persuaded to move from the settee. I covered him with a blanket and enjoyed having the bed to myself for once and not being forced to listen to Mr McMuffin speaking Albanian.

I am pissed off being back at work and my swear rate is now one 'fucking bastard' per minute. In fact I sound so much like an Old Salt, am thinking of having the hope and anchor tattooed on my forearm. I found out that I have been booked in to attend more database training tomorrow (a 'management overview') and am really pissed off about that. In fact I am pissed off completely with work. I knew it was a mistake to have time off, it's too fucking bastard hard to go back.

angel...

angel

Mrs McMuffin and I have spent the best part of the last ten years of our life following the adventures of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel. At the end of session five, Buffy sacrificed herself to save the world, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was one of those TV moments that we will talk about for years to come. That was a couple of years ago, and still it sticks in my head. There is no point me trying to persuade the unbelievers in the value of these shows, but I do have to say, that this was quality TV. When Buffy ended last year, I felt bereft. It was as if there was nothing to watch on TV, but fortunately that wasn't true, because we still had Angel. Now, two series later, they are cancelling that show. The reason for this is a bit of a mystery. This is a hit show with a strong, if slightly unhinged, following, and it just seems to get better with each new series. Anyway, next week's episode will be the last one ever, and there really will be nothing to watch on TV. What will we do?

firefly

fireflyI can't believe that they cancelled this series after only fourteen episodes. I bought the DVD box set of the complete series and I've been watching them over the last couple of days. I only saw a couple of episodes when it was shown on TV, and I thought it was okay at the time. But, now, seeing the episodes back-to-back I realise that it is an absolutely brilliant show. Written by Joss Whedon, of Buffy fame, it is an inspired idea with lots of great characters. It reminds me a little bit of the Peter F. Hamiliton's Night's Dawn trilogy. Not sure why, it just does. If any of you are looking for a replacement for Star Trek, then this could have been the show for you. Ah well, I guess we will just have to make do with these great episodes, and dream of what might have been.

24

There will be no more posts for today, probably. I got Mrs McMuffin the new DVD box set of 24 to celebrate her interview. I have absolutely no interest in seeing these shows, you understand, but I guess I will have to go and try to get in as many as I can before I fall asleep.

carnivale

carnivaleJust caught this new show by accident on FX289. The 12 part series is produced by HBO and is called Carnivale. We have now watched the first two epidodes and I am completely hooked. I am not entirely sure what it is about, but it reminds me a lot of American Gothic. Creepiness and supernatural goings on in a battle between good and evil. It's set during the depression and looks fantastic. A lot of money has been spent on this show. The best thing I've seen on TV for ages.

betrayed

I'm going to have a conversation with my mother tomorrow. I think she has lied to me all my life about something very important. I think she has lied to me about the origins of Richard 'John Boy' Thomas. I am convinced that she said he grew up in the next village along from hers in Wales and that she knew his family. Imagine how I felt when I did a little search and found out that he was born in New York. My whole world has been turned upside down and it's too late to call her. I'll never sleep now.

vote...

...for President Bartlett. We have the fourth series of 'The West Wing' on DVD. We are fools for doing this, as we can't bear to wait a week between episodes and want to gorge ourselves on the series, a few episodes a night until we're sated. Mr McMuffin wants us to tease the Profiteroles with our new purchase as they are similarly obsessed and Mr Profiterole has watched every episode at least twice. Not since the days of 'Yes, (Prime) Minister' has there been such a good political series.

In the UK we have the Labour Party conference going on and Tony Blair has again apologised for acting (he says in good faith) on faulty intelligence, but says he won't apologise for getting rid of Saddam Hussein. I might drop him an email telling him that Orkney has stockpiled anthrax.

nomates and nolives

I am amazed that I have had the time to work and do things at the weekend, as over the last week, Mr McMuffin and I have watched 23 episodes of The West Wing and are about to watch the 24th right now. Don't tell us what happens.

Void

He'd said he'd do it and he has. The Machete of Truth has deleted his blog. We wish him well.

We have just finished watching Touching the Void, which was an incredible 'dramadoc' about two climbers that we had wanted to see at the cinema. I was amazed that Joe Simpson had managed to survive a massive fall into a glacier and drag himself down a mountain with a shattered leg. I was also touched at what seemed like a real honesty about their thoughts and feelings and amused despite the horror, that Joe did not want to die to the sound of Boney M repeating endlessly in his head. The book is going on my Christmas list.
