how the mighty have fallen...

IMG_0536

There was a time when we wouldn't let Babycake touch sweets or anything remotely unhealthy.  Today, after his porridge and strawberries, of course, he tucked into a Beard Papa's "world's best cream puff". Beard Papa are a Japanese company that sell large choux pastry buns filled with custard cream.  Very, very lovely.  I agreed that Babycake could have one yesterday.  He remembered this and started campaigning for one as soon as he got up.  Unsurprisingly, he declared it "delicious".

happy christmas

IMG_0405_2

I have been up since 03:30 with Babycake who just decided that it was time to get up.  Mrs McMuffin and Cupcake are soundly sleeping upstairs.  This really is one of those situations where you have to be careful for what you wish for.  Clever, curious child?  Got one of those.  Unfortunately, the price is that he does not like to sleep very much.  As it turns out, we have had a nice time watching Wallace and Gromit.  He hadn't seen these before and found them very funny.  Babycake has been enjoying his first real Christmas.  He now understands all about presents and the  Christmas tree, which he helped put up.  It was a bit of an effort to persuade him not to open the presents we put under the tree or that they weren't all his. It has been a very relaxing countdown to Christmas this year.  We went to Ms Gypsy Tart's for dinner last night and we are off to Mrs McMuffin's parents for dinner today.  Got some friends coming round tonight to eat, drink and play what has become our traditional once-a-year board games.  Mrs McMuffin has got some fantasy Christmas with the children in her head.  She has bought them both little sets of pyjamas and insisted that the video camera is charged up and ready to go.  I'll post some photos later.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

it worked...iPhone part VII

This morning my iPhone worked as advertised. An Eastern European gentleman asked me for directions as I was taking Babycake to nursery. He had one of those clearly inferior wannabe iPhone jobs which couldn't tell him anything useful. Quick as a flash I whipped out my iPhone, entered the address and up popped the directions. The strange this is that it really was as fast as the adverts! The Gods of technology smiled on me. There us nothing worse than showing off technology that then fails to work.

foxes in blue coats

Babycake realised tonight for the first time that foxes go out at night.  He was very concerned for them because it is very cold outside.  He decided to list the things that they needed to wear to keep warm.  He suggested that they would need two jumpers, a blue coat and a pair of gloves.  I'd like to see him get that lot on a fox.

what is the world coming to...

An amazing story appeared in The Register today about a man in Australia who has been convicted of possessing child pornography.  He apparently had images of the Bart and Lisa Simpson having sex.  There is a fantastic convoluted argument from the appeal Judge about what constitutes a person.  Easily the most bizarre bit of logic that I have heard in a long time.  I find the whole thing quite offensive.

Sony reader

There must be some kind of tech conspiracy going on. I played with the Sony Reader yesterday. It looked fine and was very easy to read. I began to fantasise about how I could use it. However this lasted about two seconds until I tried to 'turn' a page. The whole screen flashed negative and then back to the new page. Absolutely, headache inducing, horrible. As far as I am concerned this makes the whole device unusable. Why have I not read about this in all the many descriptions and reviews that I have read? I think this little device has potential but it is not ready yet. Is this really the best page transition that they can come up with. I imagine that it is some limitation if the technology. Has anyone bought one of these or tried them out? What do you think?
