they're both asleep

and I have cut the grass, done a bit of tidying, checked the weather forecast, sorted out the washing and ironed our clothes for tomorrow, as Mr McMuffin returns to work and I no longer have a spare pair of hands. Babycake (unsurprisingly) is becoming more regressed and hard work and the little one (I quite like Shortcake) enjoys cluster feeding, so I am forced to run around after Babycake with her attached to my chest. This is not the most comfortable way to run around. I knew this wasn't going to be easy and I really don't want to hear that it gets harder, as I'm knackered right now! Anyway, they're both lovely children, Mr McMuffin isn't such a bad old stick and I am surviving.

We celebrated my parents' 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday and we all got together except for my brother in law, who was unable to get away from work. It was great to see my big sister and the Niece and Nephew and Babycake thought he was in heaven with new people to entertain and try to boss around. He was very taken with the Nephew and kept trying to isolate him from the herd and keep him as his special playmate forever. Even Gypsy Tart was cast aside (much to her relief and then dismay) in favour of 'Boy' and Mr McMuffin and I had a pleasant few hours while our son demanded nothing from us. Bliss!

We also went to see Sex and the City when Babycake was in nursery and jolly good it was too.

our son...the genius

Dsc01034

Babycake made his first representational art today, or at least the first we could recognise. He has become a little bit obsessed with the idea of snakes, although he has never actually seen one. I think it is because of a game they play at nursery. He proudly showed me what he had made, announcing that it was a 'nate'.

Update: I have just reread this post and realise that Babycake must have seen a snake at nursery. It took a little while for that to sink in. He doesn't get his genius from me then.

dokker who

Last night Babycake watched Doctor Who for the first time. Of course he had seen it before, but hadn't really watched it. This time he was engaged from the very beginning when Mrs McMuffin and I started singing "dokker whoooo, dok, dok, dokker who" to the theme tune (if you can imagine that). He sat quietly cuddled up with Mrs McMuffin watching the entire episode. I'm not sure what he made of it all, and a couple of times I did wonder if it was a little too scary for him. At the end of the excellent episode (The Library, I think) Babycake jumped up demanding "more dokker who!" He seemed happy to accept that there was no more and lay back on the couch quietly singing to himself "dokker whooo".

I think we have now done our bit as parents and introduced another British child to the wonders of Doctor Who.

gone baby gone

Just watched Gone Baby Gone. Ben Afleck did a fine job writing and directing. Little Casey did a fine job of acting. Bloody good film. Had me on the edge of my seat for a few moments. I imagine it will win Oscars for Best Actor and Best Film. 4/5 stars, I think. Go see it, you will not be disappointed. Oh, alright, you might be, but don't come crying to me if you are.

best shop bought sandwich ever...probably

I had a ham, cheese and pickle sandwich from Morrisons today at lunchtime and is wondeful. Everything just tasted really fresh, like I had just made it myself. The crust of the bread even had a little bit of crunch to it. How did they do that? Highly recommended.

I can't believe that I'm 47 years old today. Where did the time go?
