on a more positive note...

I got a very nice jacket from Marks and Spencer at the weekend, properly cut to cover my emerging bump (how can I be so big so early on? And it's not twins!) and a really cheap, enormous parka from Tesco's (of all places) to protect me from the elements when we go to Berlin in December.

I am stupidly excited about going to Berlin. I have wanted to go there since I first heard about the Wall and I'm not sure why, but I still want to go now the wall is gone and see how it's all turned out. I was very jealous of Gypsy Tart and Rock Cake for getting there before us, so when they suggested we all nip over just before Christmas, we didn't hesitate. I have been trying to recollect the three years of German I was forced to take at school (I was pretty good at it, but really hated the sound of the foul language in my mouth) and teaching Babycake to ask for beer. He has not been cooperative, but then he still refuses to call me 'Mummy', so what do you expect?

I have also finished a significant part of my course and it went really well thanks to my colleagues who both happen to be Social Workers with a Welsh connection. I think that is significant. I now have four assignments to write and submit before the end of December, plus a heavy workload, yet am feeling optimistic. It might be something to do with actually feeling like I'm not going to pass out with exhaustion about four times a day and I hope I am finally enjoying the benefits of a supercharged second trimester. It's about time.

Course? What course? Have you been getting more educated on the sly?

Feel like dropping by Stuttgart on the way to Berlin? It's only, erm, at the completely opposite end of the country, alas.

Oh yes, I have been fitting in a diploma in management studies this year. It's not particularly taxing, but unfortunately you go need to devote some time to it!

Would love to take a trip to the opposite end of the country, but sadly impractical. Would also benefit from some language advice, racked my brains to try and remember anything more then two beers...my name is...where is...and der, die, das, die, den, die , das, die, des, der, des, der, dem, der, dem, den... We learnt a lot by rote at school! Now don't get me started on hic, haec, hoc...

Is Management Studies about doing all you can to avoid being disliked by your underlings?

I can't give advice on German - I speak English at work, at home and in social situations, so my German's hardly improving. I'm not motivated to make it better, as I'll be heading north again in April 2009. Hopefully!

The first thing I learnt in Latin was: table, o table, table, of the table, to the table, from the table... I'm yet to discuss furniture with a Roman.

That faster expanding baby bump is just like panty hose that you've worn once. Have fun in Berlin. I'm always envious of the close proxmity you have to all those other countries. Canada is close to me but that's about it...even Mexico is 2,500+ miles away.
