holidays
We have been off on our holidays for the last few days. It isn't much of a holiday, more a few days away. We decided to head off to Bruges, The Venice of The North, according to the town's tourist machinery. It is a truly beautiful place. For those of you who do not know, it has been declared a world heritage something or other. It is a mediaeval town which has suffered very little damage or change over the centuries. However, today we went to Gent, another mediaeval town in Belgium. It is a very different place. It was lucky enough to be part of the industrialistation of the country and as such has developed a slightly more eclectic way. It is beautiful and vibrant and it bustles and hustles. I loved it, and so did Mrs McMuffin. Oh, by the way, the whole place closes down on 15 August for some sort of public holiday, even so, it we had a lovely day. I'll post some pictures of Bruges later, but for now here is a photo of Gent that I took on my phone camera.

I've read about Bruges and look forward to going there someday. August 15th = The Assumption (Virgin Mary dies and physically ascends to heaven).
Been enjoying the pictures of your little boy so much!

Glad you liked Belgium. We went there often for holidays before we discovered aeroplanes and sunny islands. I don't think there's many (major) towns in Belgium that we've not been to, and Gent was amongst our favourites.
