we went out again

This was a dismal and damp bank holiday weekend, but I've thoroughly enjoyed spending so much daytime with Mr McMuffin and Babycake. Ms Ginger Cake had offered to babysit today, so Mr McMuffin and I have been really excited about going to see a film all weekend. We settled on 28 Weeks Later and had a wonderful time eating ice cream and looking at all the gore and views of London (although how the two kids got to Wembley so quickly on foot is quite beyond me).

Babycake continues to delight and alarm with his exponential growth and learning. He is chatty and sounds as if he speaks fluent Arabic, Mandarin and even French on occasion. He is into climbing everything and for about 25 seconds today, Mr McMuffin and I were chatting and took our eyes off the boy. I was alerted to the silence and ran to investigate. Babycake was not staring at the washing machine and pressing all the buttons as I had thought, but had got out into the garden (through two open stairgates and an unlocked door, so much for safety) and was climbing from the bench onto the table. As I ran to him, he slipped and fell, banging his head on the way down. Fortunately his pride was more hurt than his head and he recovered in a minute or so, but I still feel sick at how quickly he got out and into trouble. I know there's so much more of this to come, but I don't know if I can take the worry. This really is horror. How on earth do other people do it?

not fair...

...that the boy can't get one of these just because he lives in the wrong country.

dancing baby

Baby really does love that Band of Horses music. He is jiggling and wiggling and shaking his little booty to the rather sedate sounds of the band.

time

Now I understand how precious the time that you get for yourself is, I appreciate the whole day and evening Mr McMuffin has given me, so that I can write an essay for my course. He is a good man to be sure, messy and rubbish at DIY, but a good man for all that.

revenge

I don't normally like removing posts, but this one was actually not for public consumption, but a rant to help me calm down a little bit. I'm not sure how it got published. Anyway, there are more interesting things for us to tell you and I hope to prod Mr McMuffin into doing his duty.

more snails of the city

Yesterday Mr McMuffin caught Babycake wandering around the garden with a 'stone' in his hand. On closer inspection it was apparent that it was an enormous snail and Babycake was licking it rather delicately, as if he was enjoying the special flavour of the slime. It was a very special day as he also created his first work of art and I hope Mr McMuffin will scan it and post it, because let's face it, the world really needs to see more baby scribbles. I knew Babycake had finished his masterpiece as he gave a grunt and did a poo on the rug, then got up and walked away. That will teach me to let him run around naked before bed and to mess with the artistic temperament.

no more snails

Babycake is fine and hasn't continued with his epicurean adventures. In other news, to send a chill down the spine of people with small children, pets or photographic equipment that they really care about, a little girl was abducted from her holiday apartment in Portugal. Obviously you feel for the parents, but not that much. How on earth could these people think it was ok to leave three children under three alone in an apartment, while they ate at a nearby restaurant? Let's hope that poor child gets found soon and is unharmed.
