ikea v god
What do Volvo, Ericsson, Saab and IKEA have in common? The people of Sweden have more faith in them than in the church.

hero or zero
Sean Connery was interviewed by Barbara Walters in 1987 and he talked about it being okay to slap a woman under certain circumstances. I remember reading something about this a few years ago, but I had never actually seen it. Well here is your chance to have a look. Beware, it is a little bit shocking, and I suppose a bit sad too. Why do our heroes always end up having feet of clay? By the way, the video was posted on YouTube by Wakmofo.

ooops...
I managed to fall down the stairs this morning. Fortunately I only hurt my left big toe. I really must have given it a wrench because it is all swollen and bruised. I can still move it quite easily so I am pretty sure it is not broken. Mrs McMuffin has tried to persuade me to go to hospital to have it x-rayed just in case, but why bother with that when I already know it is okay. We live in an old Victorian house, and I have often thought about falling down those stairs. My first thought when I fell, after the usual curses, was what would have happened if I had been carrying Babycake?

addendum
Forgot to put a link to Colin in the previous post for starting the sprog/music thinking for me.
If you are one of the two people who visited yesterday, you might wonder where my rantings about Zanzibar have gone. The explanation is that for some reason only known to himself, Mr McMuffin actually published a half finished post of mine. I realise that quality control is largely absent from our blog, but that goes too far, so I have taken it away. For anyone who isn't sure where Zanzibar is, it is an island off the coast of Tanzania and I found that out on Monday. All the years I've lived in this world and I didn't know Zanzibar is an island. Although at least I knew Goa is part of mainland India, Mr McMuffin and Ms Ginger Cake. I'd feel really stupid if I didn't know that.

children and music
It's so important that one's infant has good taste in music, don't you think? I've just seen Babycake and Mr McMuffin doing their respective things to RunDMC and Aerosmith and the joy on the boy's face was rather sweet.
In other Babycake related news, he developed a social smile a week last Friday. He's been trying it out on all and sundry, thinking he's being charming. Sadly, he looks like a teeny gargoyle as it's not the nicest of expressions. Anyway, it makes us laugh and so rewarded, Babycake continues to frighten the horses.

forty
I met up with the Cake crowd for a quick drink to celebrate Single Cookie's birthday. It was good to see them, but odd being out without Babycake and I scuttled off home as they left to go to the dogs. I managed a brief chat with my old childhood chum, Mrs Carrot Cake and we talked about being forty at our next birthday. Mrs Carrot Cake shocked me by saying that she was really bothered about it and had told people to put thirty on her cake. I hadn't been bothered in the slightest about leaving my thirties behind, as I had a great decade and I hope the next one will be better, but I can't help wondering if I'm missing something and I should be more upset at reaching the halfway point.

cameras
I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was getting a new camera. I fell for the sleek loveliness that is the Samsung NV10. I couldn't help it. It was all black retro with touch sensitive controls and 10MP. What was a boy to do? Anyway, it arrived and we started taking photos with it. One or two came out really nice, but generally they were a little bit blurry. It was almost as if the camera was too powerful for it's size. I know next to nothing about cameras, and that is probably nonsense. I just didn't like the photos. The ever efficient people over at Amazon agreed to take the camera back and have refunded our money. I have now ordered a sleek black Sony T50. I loved our other Sony, so I have high hopes for this one. Sure, it's a little bit more expensive and there are fewer MPs for your buck. I don't care, I just want a camera that takes nice photos. Anyway, does anyone really need a camera that takes 10MP photos? Although, I must admit that it was a bit like living in Bladerunner. I could zoom in on the number plates of cars that were parked way off in the distance. That was a little bit cool.

babycake speaks
For those of you who are interested, I thought you might like to hear Babycake's dulcet tones. He has tons to say in his lovely deep voice. You can download the small MP3 here.

clan
Just heard that Gypsy Tart and Rock Cake are buying a house five minutes walk away. While this is fantastic news, I have to confess I'll miss them living four feet away from us. Can't stand in the way of progress, though and I'm looking forward to the housewarming already.

never again
Well, it felt like a complete waste of money and effort, but at least Babycake got to spend some time with his Scottish family. I must be a bad person, because I'd really rather he wasn't related to them sometimes and other times I'm glad that he has these connections. Anyway, if I have to sit and listen to how brilliant my brother and sister in law are for all their qualifications and 'letters' one more time, I'll go insane. It just serves to underline how little Mr McMuffin's parents know, or care about us as actual people and that makes me feel quite sad. However, the deed is done and there are no expectations that we'll be returning any time soon, so at the least it's bought us a few years off for good behaviour.
As a point of interest, the Scottish are less friendly to Babycake that London commuters in the height of the rush hour. Sorry if that's unwelcome news, but that's just how it is. Poor Babycake tried and tried to make friends, but in Scotland got the briefest of smiles in return. In London, some kind man let him grab his collar, smear spit on it and still smiled at him. I just bet Babycake was wishing himself back in Portugal, I know I was.

scotland
Well we have made it to Scotland. The journey was remarkably easy. 8 hours from door to door, without a hitch. Babycake hasn't been feeling well and slept for big chunks of the journey. We arrived at 6pm, booked into our hotel and then headed over to see my parents. Mrs McMuffin and Babycake are in bed, and I'm sitting here killing time waiting for my lovely friend to arrive so we can have a drink together. My brother has gathered us all here to celebrate his partner's 40th birthday tomorrow. The arrangements have changed so many times that I am no longer sure what we are doing. There seems to be some plan to meet up at a bar at 1pm tomorrow, and drink and eat all day and night. I'm not sure if I am up for that at all. Certainly, Mrs McMuffin and Babycake will not be. I guess we will have to wait to see how things pan out.
Don't you just love the fact that you can get access to the internet practically anywhere nowadays?

mail order husbands
What the bloody hell is going on with this post. It has hundreds of comments, and I am thinking about charging. There is obviously a market out there for mail order husbands. I wonder if they would keep if they were posted in tetrapaks.

this season
How fashion forward are you? Forget the whole new black debate and whether it's grey again or actually black, time is where it's at. Thanks to Babycake's inner fashionista (should that be fashionisto?), I know that 5.30am is the new 6.30am. Under eye bags are of course the accessory this Autumn.
