it's over
As much as I dislike football, I loved the empty streets when England played. For that reason alone I wish England had won. Rock Cake told us last night that Wayne Rooney had deliberately kicked one of the opposition in the groin, for that I'm glad England lost.

Though he represents everything I don't like about England, I have to jump to his defence on this one. It looked like an accident to me. Also, in contrast to the rest of the team, he always looked like the only one who really wanted to win anything.

I watched the footage of the kick and I have to agree with you, David, it did look like an accident.
...and Wendy, how eloquent.

I really think that he did it on purpose, but we'll never know for sure till he brings out another book. Anyway, the other guy deserved it simply for being one of the diving, cheating, whinging Portugese. Some of the dives they pulled off against France in the semi were worthy of olympic medals. Thankfully the ref was switched on and was having none of it. He should have booked a few of them for it though, especially Ronaldo.
I saw a good cartoon of Rooney, in an ice cream van, handing a cone to a kid and asking "do you want crushed nuts...". It made me smile.
