bittersweet

I left Babycake in the capable hands of Mr McMuffin and went off to work today with a big lump in my throat and tears prickling behind my eyes. It was great to see everyone again and have adult conversations without distraction and I didn't think I missed the boy too much. However, by lunch time I couldn't wait to see him and he was so pleased to see me it was sad. Sad, because he's never had to be pleased to see me before, I've always been around.

if the experience of my (female) friends at work is anything to go by, that's a pretty mild reaction. (I've seen people wandering off for a quick blub in the toilets on their first day back).

At least you can leave Master Babycakes with his dad -- there's nothing wrong with daycare but I bet the nipper is perfectly happy to stay with one of the pack.

I can remember what that was like - leaving my baby at home and returning to work. For me, nothing was ever the same after my daughter was born. Good luck!

Surely Babycake is not a year old already!

In Canada we get a full year of maternity. But then, there are no jobs and those in s.w. are very poorly paid.

:-(

Strangely my second day back was worse than my first and a Canadian colleague told me how much more leave I would have had in Canada. What can I say, you Canadians are a civilised nation.
