holiday, celebrate
Mr McMuffin and I want to go away on holiday for a week in the next month or so, but we have no idea where to go. We want to go somewhere we haven't been before as we're not very well travelled and lovely as Madeira is, we feel the need to go somewhere else. We have a list of requirements:
Destination has to be a city in Europe
Warm and sunny, but not boiling hot
Pushchair friendly
Not hugely expensive
We're thinking possibly Krakow or Budapest, but would be most grateful for any suggestions.

How about Wolverhampton ?

Krakow is lovely, I don't know what's like in June but when I went in August it was boiling. Food is cheap (or at least was in 1998), you can while away some time in one of the many cafes in the main square. The Jewish area is really interesting, and also sobering.
I really like Paris and Brussels, Bruges is good too but can be a bit twee. No idea about pushchair-friendliness though!

some lovely flower filled patios (squares) and tiled benches, plenty of parks around the city too I was quiet surprised, nive river promenades with the pushchair

I would suggest Billinham. You'd have to pick your days carefully if you want it to be warm and sunny, so keep an eye on the long range weather forecasts. Once there you'd find it very wheelchair friendly, almost no hills as it's built on an old salt marsh, and the entire town centre is pedestrianised and car free. The local scenery is stunning, an array of derelict chemical works, railway sidings and boarded up and burned out buildings. For fans of decaying 60's concrete architecture it's a dream come true.
See you there in June?

How about Alghero in Sardinia? OK, more a town than a city, but it's on the Ryanair network (I think). A beautiful town, a huge long beach, good food and it won't be too busy once the Whitsun rush has passed.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. So far Bilinham and Wolverhampton do sound the most attractive and there's no need to fly!
I love Paris, but I doubt I'll get Mr McMuffin to go again, so I shall now be investigating Brussels (my Dad used to go there a lot when he was working and always brought back fab chocs, so am already well disposed), Seville and Alghero.

Pushchair friendly? Then you really want Scandinavia! No heaving prams up over kerbs here - there's always a bit of concrete.
City in Europe? Yes, that's fine.
Sunny but not boiling? Perfect in the month ahead.
Not hugely expensive? Ah, I think that might be a stumbling block! But you can save on transport: Ryanair flies to Århus! I take it the little un's too young for Legoland, right?

One other plus about Brussels is that you are only a couple of hours max, if I remember correctly, from Paris and three hours from Amsterdam on the Thalys train service... which is probably more of a draw if you live in a country with crap train service like the US. Well, maybe I shouldn't be so hasty...

Sorry to have recommended Billingham to you. Today it ws blown off the face of the planet (if you beleive the new hype). Sorry to have suggested such a dangerous location for your vacation.
