effiel eiffel tower
As soon as we arrived in Paris, we dropped off our stuff at the hotel and made the mistake of deciding to walk along the river to the effiel Eiffel Tower. We thought it would be lovely to view the city from the top of the tower as the sun went down. We didn't realise how far away we were, and it took us nearly two hours to walk to the tower. The second mistake we made was not considering that pratically everyone else in Paris for the weekend also had the same idea. There was a queue of hundreds of people snaking around the base of the tower. We had an ice cream instead, and I consoled myself with this great photo. Fortunately we went back a couple of days later, and while we did have to wait for a while, it was worth it. Mrs McMuffin was very unhappy to find that once we had queued at two different points to get to the top of the tower, one of the workers expressed surprise that she had queued at all. Apparently, if Mrs McMuffin had the very unBritish, bare-faced cheek, to mention that she was pregnant we would have been taken to the head of the queue, which would have been nice. The tower itself is amazing, and one of the few things that I have seen in my travels that have truly impressed me. I know that sounds like an odd thing to say, but I think I appreciated the bloody-minded oddness of someone deciding to build the thing in the first place. It is just so huge. Oh, and the views are fantastic. It also has the distinction of being the place in Paris where you can buy truly the worst cup of coffee in all of the city. The prize for the worst cup of coffee in the world is jointly held by every single cafe in Prague.

As my RSS opened and I saw this photo I let out an instant: 'Aaaah, that's a lovely photo!' And it really is.
Glad you took the missus to new heights.

He certainly did. I'd only ever been to the 2nd stage before. Now if he could spell 'Eiffel' we'd be well away. It's no good, I have to go in and correct his post. Call Typepad if I'm not back by the morning.

Cool pic!
I have to confess that I bottled at the second stage and didn't go all the way due to the queues (honest!)
My wife was really annoyed when we went back at night as she needed the toilet and they had closed the ones under the Tower, we had to dash across the road and use one on one of the tour boats or there would have been real problems!
