the grass is greener
Since moving to work with health and education workers, I have never finished work at 5pm. No, we knock off much earlier and have a lunch break. Utter bliss for the moment, but we shall be working our way up to 36 hours a week again (practically part time for me) although sadly I am not entitled to the extensive holidays they take. And to think I hesitated about taking this secondment, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to go back to my real job, I won't have the stamina for it and I shall have been spoilt by having a new chair and office furniture, a kettle bought for us and access to admin workers who do filing. Unheard of luxury!

I said 'education' not 'teachers' for a reason! Big Sis is a teacher, you know and it would be more than my life is worth to suggest that they do not work bloody hard and well over their allotted hours. Actually, one of the team is a teacher and he reminisces about working until midnight every night when he worked in a school.
However, there are some people in the team who work a strict 9-5, zealously noting every minute they work over, yet happy to work less. I'm not judging them, I'm hoping to learn from them! Sadly I have no extra pay, but I can't complain, the working conditions are like another five grand in the pocket.

The novelty of a new term and the benefits of the summer rest have worn off already for me. I'm now feeling like I've worked a full academic year!
Perhaps I should get myself a job with the LEA...
