just a quickie

Thank you for all your well wishes. We are both very happy, but absolutely terrified about what lies ahead. One of the reasons we started this blog was that we felt the need to do something together following a miscarriage a couple of years ago, so it's lovely that we have this news to announce on the blog. As you may have gathered from some of my posts it has been a bit of an anxious pregnancy so far and I hope it isn't misguided, but I now feel that this little thing will be fine, this time, but it's going to be a long six months. The news we had on Monday is very good and although a lady doesn't give her age away, I am on the slope down towards forty, so it was wonderful to hear that I had no more chance of having a child with Down's Syndrome than a fifteen year old. Of course the real worry begins when it's born and I know I'll be checking on the bairn's breathing until they're old enough to leave home.

I am a little obsessed with being pregnant and find talking about it very interesting. So far people have indulged me (although not all of my psychotic hormonal behaviour) but I do appreciate I've turned into one of those women I despise. Single Cookie has agreed to shoot me if she ever catches me leafing through the Mothercare catalogue and learning to knit. I've asked her, as I know she would keep in mind the woman I once was and not allow sentiment to put her off her aim. She's written an encouraging email to tell me how she's loading up the gun already.

Let's hope the title of this post doesn't refer to the actual conception! ;-)

It's good to read your take on the matter, Mrs McMuffin, even if you're masquerading as your husband.

I was worried a month or so ago, when the news about Kylie came about, as it sounded from what you wrote that you were waiting for your results from the same kind of test. I'm happy to learn that it was due to being 'with child' instead. :-)

Any strange food cravings yet? And have you been vomming a lot? Slinky must think it's your way of spraying!

I was being a bit cheeky, but rest assured, even if I could remember the night in question, I would spare the blushes of our readers!

I forgot to log in as me, but I'm glad you realised who I was from the post-hope it wasn't too hard this time. I'm very sorry for little Kylie but so pleased my health stuff wasn't about that. I've not been craving anything specific this time round (last time it was crab meat and marmite-not together) but have just been ravenous this pregnancy. Not vomming, but was nauseous all the time I wasn't eating carbs, fat or protein. I have had proper vomming in the past, but I have to say that the constant nausea was really yucky, but not as bad as the constant exhaustion.

See, I'm a me, me, me, monster at the moment. Any more questions? I'd love to answer!

so what will the cake name be - mini-muffiin?
happy to read this take on it too and glad you found something constructive and worthwhile from an unhappy event.

Gosh, I don't stop in for a day or two and look what I've missed.
Congratulations. What a lucky child to be born into all of this McMuffin loveliness.
Oh yea for you. Hip Hip Hooray.

Hey, McMuffins! Congratulations on your up and coming special event. If it's a boy, I suspect you'll be naming it Machete', no?

I am very sad that your land was hit by a terror attack, and I pray for the souls of those lost. I hope that this entire episode in the lifespan of humanity passes quickly, but I fear that it is the continuum resumed, abetted by the shrinking of our world.

God bless you and your new McMuffing to be.

More questions:

1) How does it feel having to avoid booze, fags, caffeine, crack cocaine...?

2) And is Mr McMuffin avoiding them out of sympathy?

3) Do you think Slinky knows your pregnant?

4) If so, do you think Slinky might be thinking he's the father?

5) Will you be going all American and holding a baby shower? (Although why you'd want to wash it in front of lots of other people, I don't know.)

6) Has Mr McMuffin started working on his own line of gourmet baby food yet?

7) Have strangers started patting your stomach yet?

Erm, I think that's enough questions for the time being!

'you're pregnant', not 'your pregnant'. The shame.

1. Obviously I'm still on the crack, but the booze wasn't too bad-I only really miss a cold beer in this hot weather, the fags weren't as bad as last time and the smell is a bit rank now, but the coffee-one poxy cup a day-that was bloody awful.

2. Is he hell.

3. Yes, I think he does. He's taken to lying with his head on my stomach.

4. No. He's probably contemplating infanticide.

5. Never. Presents are only good if they're not things like talcum powder or little socks.

6. Not yet, but a very good idea. Perhaps we can create our own range of 'bairn mcmuffin' or 'mini muffin' (courtesy of Sandy) food.

7. No. My friends know I hate being touched so have left me alone and I've only stopped wearing complete cover ups so the bump is only noticeable now. As an indication of how pregnancy has changed me, I have been encouraging friends and family to feel my belly button, as it's rather freaky-it has this strange ridge which makes people flinch when they touch it and I seem to find endlessly amusing.

Oh, it's Mr McMuffin that's having the baby. Silly me, I'd thought it was Mrs till now.

Posted by: Steve | 14 Jul 2005 23:07:27

Part of me wishes it was him. I'm no masochist and am not looking forward to the birth bit.

Posted by: mrs mcmuffin | 14 Jul 2005 23:09:48

Well I hope there'll be lots of pictures (with your face suitably disguised as always) of the whole birthing experience on this blog. It's the ideal vehicle for it.

Posted by: Steve | 14 Jul 2005 23:16:20

That is NOT going to happen, Steve! I am contemplating the whole filming thing as a means of emotional torture (why won't you clean your room, look what I suffered...etc) but I really think that the result not the process should be recorded.

..are you going to be a working Mum Mrs M?

Posted by: Sandy | 14 Jul 2005 23:38:08

YES!

Posted by: mr mcmuffin | 15 Jul 2005 06:26:38

As an expert on these matters I have only two pieces of unsolicited advice:
1 (for mrs m) get the epidural set in time; if you have more children, make bloody sure the epidural is set in time
2 (for mr m) take some sandwiches - it might be a long wait. You probably won't have to share them but if she wants a pizza afterwards, get it or you'll be hearing about it for the rest of your life.

Posted by: David.2 | 15 Jul 2005 09:11:36

Note to self: remind Mrs McMuffin to make sandwiches before we leave for the hospital.

Posted by: mr mcmuffin | 15 Jul 2005 11:33:00

Wow, this is amazing. Nobody has ever had a baby before, have they? Just remember that a lot of people will have to risk their lives to make sure that your baby can grow up safe from the fear of Islamofascist terrorism.

Sorry if I sounded a bit off in the above posting. I'm a bit touchy today and things come out in print different than I mean them to sometimes.
Good luck with the baby.

Posted by: Craig UK | 15 Jul 2005 21:49:37

Dear Craig, I'm sorry if you're a 'bit touchy', I guess that makes your abuse ok. You will never be given the opportunity to repeat this nastiness as you are now banned and should crawl back under your rock.

Posted by: mr mcmuffin | 15 Jul 2005 22:01:53

Actually that was me telling Craig to fuck off, not Mr McMuffin. He prefers to delete the comments then ban them, but I like to reserve the right to reply.
