the good news
I got the job. We just have to agree money, but that shouldn't be a problem. I will probably be starting on Monday. It was all a bit strange, because this is the place where I started my career in social work and a lot of the people I used to work with are still there. I even bumped into a couple of them. I will now be working with Ms Ginger Cake, which will be nice. Perhaps more importantly, Mrs McMuffin will now be one of my bosses...sort of. I just hope she doesn't take to bossing me around at home too.
The other good news is that Homechoice is now available in our area. I've lusted after this service for a year or so. Just imagine a 4Mb broadband connection, TV, movies and telephone calls delivered over the telephone line and for only £60 per month. The icing on the cake is that the set top box is lovely. Very Apple-ly. It's all very futuristic. Of course, now that I can have it, I'm having second thoughts. They don't do Sky One, and that was the main reason that we got Sky in the first place. All the big SF shows are shown on Sky One first. Maybe I can get used to waiting along with all the other plebs. I guess I'll have to sleep on it. Oh, and talk to Mrs McMuffin about it too, of course.

Oh, well done on the job, Mr McMuffin! Yes, it sounds like there's something incestuous about the whole social work community in McMuffin Country, if you constantly bump into other 'cakes' that you already know. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing. [Did I just say that incest is good?!!!]
So there'll be no pulling a sickie without the boss's knowledge, then (sort of)?!! Oh well - must be good to have a new job, anyway. Cool! :-)

I like it how the "free calls" cost £5 a month. Someone has a strange definition of "free". And "the pick of the TV crop" including ITV2, UKTV Gold, Paramount Comedy, Discovery Channel and British Eurosport. Wow, hold me back. Still, movies & music videos on demand sounds OK, other than that I'd just stick to my NTL Cable TV & Broadband package.

Who is behind this by the way?
I read recently that this is the route NTL are going to take. They are not going to do a Sky+ type of box because there will be no point. You will be able to watch what you want, when you want, so why would you need to record it to watch later? I think that it really is the way that things will go.

Congratulations on the new job and so cool that it's all in the family. You'll have to watch the BS sessions when you complain about the boss tho...

That's great news!!! Congratulations! Still waiting to hear about my own interview. Sigh!!!!

Oh YAY!!! I am so pleased. Perhaps happiness at house of McMuffin shall return and normal witty repartee shall resume for the masses.
Really. I am terribly excited for you.

Thanks, everyone.
Oh Steve, of course nothing is for free, but the calls are included in the £60 premium package. Your very northern-ness probably drew you to the much cheaper standard package. You're right though I think this is the way to go. The other advantage, of course, is that we pay for these programmes forever.

Not sure I get this, Mr McM:
The other advantage, of course, is that we pay for these programmes forever.
How is that an advantage? Will you still have to keep paying for the programmes even once you're dead? With your souls, perhaps?

I'm sure that Microshaft will eventually come up with a DRM system which lays claim to our souls when we die. Although, why wait until we die? They will probably rip our souls from our living bodies.

Ah, you intentionally ignored my intentional misunderstanding, I see. I've been Double-McBluffined!

Much congratulations on the new job! Yay!
