looking for the answer

Did you know that Google can give you the answer to life, the universe, and everything? Just put an = sign after the question.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been searching forever for something in particular. In general I pride myself on my Google skills, but this search had been alluding me. Until now, that is - your timing was impeccable! I put in a search word followed by an equals sign, and I got a whole page of totally relevant links that had previously been hiding from me. So thank you again! If I now become an A-level English language teacher in Denmark or Sweden, it'll be entirely your fault! ;-)

David, this was meant to be a joke by those geeky multi millionaire Google folk. I had no idea that it would help you get different results. If you search for "life, the universe, and everything=" then you will find the answer.

Really? I was trying to find out what qualifications were needed to be a sixth-form teacher in Denmark. I'd Googled strings like "hvordan bliver man gymnasielærer" and "hvordan man bliver gymnasielærer" ("how do you become a sixth-form teacher" and "how you become a sixth-form teacher", among other things, and nothing worked. I then tried 'gymnasielærer =', and I got loads of great results.

Oops - I've just tried 'gymnasielærer' by itself, and it's exactly the same as 'gymnasielærer ='! I could have sworn I'd tried that one before - but obviously not! Perhaps I'd misspelt it previously.

Oh well, never mind. After a moment of embarrassment - I can feel that I've gone very red! - I've decided that it isn't necessary to be embarrassed about it any longer. The good news is that if you've got a Master's you apply to the advertised positions on a special form, and if they take you on you teach a 2/3 schedule for 1-2 years while doing a Danish PGCE.

If I get accepted, you can be sure I won't be teaching them Googling skills! ;-)

Oh for goodness sake, it will have lost all sense of fun by the time I explain it all. Do a search for life, the universe, and everything=. Exactly as you see it. You will find that the answer is 42. It a little joke from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.

We were at a church event recently and as everyone was introducing themselves they added some quirky bit. My husband said his name and then "42" after it. Nobody caught on. They must think he looks rather good for a 42 year old (he's 34).

I did that, silly, and all I got was a normal set of google search results.

So, that's why I don't get it. I was expecting "42" or something, but that's NOT what Google told me. So....
