warning, more catblogging and worn out thoughts about tv complaints

Slinky has really taken to his radiator sling bed. He was most unsure until I put his little blankie on it and settled him down. He is now overwhelmed by favourite spots and I've seen him moving between our bed, the cushion upstairs next to the radiator, our laps and his new sling with a happy look on his face all night. Last night he was so content, he sat in his little sling purring away to himself for about an hour. Aah.

If only the US inspired 'Christian' organisations were as happy. Instead of giving succour to the poor and doing good deeds, a few of them are campaigning vociferously for Jerry Springer, the Opera not to be shown on BBC2 tomorrow. Apparently it contains swearing and blasphemy so they burnt their TV licenses. I hate to be so obvious, but why don't they just not watch it? I'm sure there are people who find 'Songs of Praise' offensive, but at least they have the grace to keep it to themselves. Anyway, Gypsy Tart saw the show on stage and didn't return a Satanist, so it can't be that evil, as she is very easily influenced. She didn't rate it that highly either. Now I can't wait to watch the damn thing now to decide for myself, such is the influence of the so called 'Christians' on me.

Same here - I feel as if it's my duty to watch it, to make a point. The thing is, though, that it doesn't actually interest me. I heard a clip on the radio today which reminded me of one basic thing about it: it is an opera (of sorts). I think it'll end up being a last minute decision for me.

Now how where do you have to go to support the 'disestablishmentarianism' movement?

They protest to save us from ourselves so we can be that much closer to gog. I suppose if they could burn TV licenses (what's that?) they'd do that too. I get so tired of being rescued from me.

If you had TV licenses then you would have better TV programmes, or at least that's the theory.

David: I don't know, but I'll join you.

Karan: I love that phrase and I'm going to steal it...So tired of being rescued from me...that's fabulous.

I heard one chap on radio 4 who suggested that the Beeb should perhaps screen Mamma Mia instead, as this is 'a really good show', and would be less offensive......
Well, having had the pleasure of working on it for an exceedingly short while I can say they the chap is in fact correct, and it is unoffensive....to anyone in the audience who happens to be both deaf, dumb and blind.
Not to mention how much it would cost the Beeb in royalties before they had finally paid off all those errant Abba bandmembers and the extensive creative entourage that goes with them. I believe that the license would just about cover that one broadcast. I just can't bear those f**kwits idiots that make flippant suggestions believing that they have the God given right to dictate what the nation should or shouldn't watch, and are so arrogant to believe that it is simply a matter of picking and chosing which particular item can be televised. I'm assuming that it took an age and a fair amount of pain to get the potential braodcasting of this off the ground...does anyone think about that?
Do these 'christians' really believe that they are not being catered for by the Beeb??? Personally I find 'Songs of Praise' excrutiatingly offensive, illustrating, as I think it does, the utter gullibilty of the human race, and their sad likeness to sheep being herded by a dog ( wearing a collar of course). But what do I do? Do I burn my license, do I shout and scream?? No, I GET A LIFE AND TURN THE TELLY OFF.

Anyway, these protesters are only doing this because of the recent conflagrations at Birmingham Rep about the 'sikh play'. Sadly the rep had to cave as they couldn't get insurance for the safety of their audiences in that situation, although I believe another company is considering staging it. I can't see the Beeb caving because they can no longer insure their audience - what's going to happen, eh? Are these extremist christians going to come to my house , check what I'm watching and then throw a brick through my window......? I thought this was a country of free speech ( well just about as yet).

Well - I'm going to watch it - I suspect I'll probably hate it, but now I'm even more determined. Especially to see Jesus in hell with Satan, having lunch.

Single Cookie, I hear your passion and I have to tell you that (under false pretences) I was lured into seeing Mamma Mia. Fucking shit is too mild to descibe my thoughts on it. I would put a brick through the window of anyone watching it on tv. For their own good, you understand.

Gypsy Tart could only recall Jesus in a nappy as faintly blasphemous, but says she was so annoyed by the singing she found it hard to concentrate, so she may have missed something.

Personally, I think God wants to slap these people for their stupidity and wasting their energies on such unimportant matters and s/he probably likes the show. They claim to know God's mind, well so do I and let me tell you my God is a lot bigger than theirs and has a sense of humour.

it is childish to get worked up about this show being offensive. Even if it may portray jesus as a bit gay, don't all tv shows and plays portray things? It is not as if this portrayal will change anybody's religious beliefs. The nature of free society is that people are allowed to express themselves and believe what they want. just don't watch it if u dont want to. To want it censored is like demanding any programme censored that shows a brown haired white man killing someone because it suggests all men of similar complextion are alike

Hey! I'm a brown haired white man. What are you suggesting?

Posted by: mr mcmuffin | 9 Jan 2005 08:10:01

Mrs McMuffin, Mmmm Gypsy Tart fell ASLEEP in Shockheaded Peter, and that behavoiur IS blasphemous - so i shouldn't listen to her views on anything theatrical....!
