harvesting the past
Over the last year or so I have managed to track down almost all of the music that I have owned at various times over the years. Tonight, I found some Tourists tracks and the Nick Guilder album. I am only missing an album by a group called Spider. Holly Knight, who went on to have a celebrated career as a jobbing rock songwriter, was the lead singer. If memory serves, she left after a couple of albums and the band faded away. I only want their first album. I can't even remember a single song on it. I only remember that it was some kind of rock music and I liked it when I was about 18 or 19 years old. I can't think of anything else that I want. What now?

Never heard of her or the band. I did a google search and this blog was already the 6th top match!
I've been doing much the same as you but the people I want are not so obscure and I can get almost everything either by legal or illegal or shady legal download, or (whisper it) by buying the actual CD. Quite often I find the stuff was crap, and nothing like as good as I remembered! :-(

I have no leads on the "Spider" album, but a good place to stream some of their hit songs (along with Holly Knight) is www.crapfromthepast.com hosted by Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber. The most recent aired program (June 3, 2004 - Now available on his site, check "Playlists") was a special episode entitled "Silent Night, Holly Knight" which features the Spiders' one hit "New Romance," along with songs Holly wrote for Tina Turner, Animotion, Pat Benetar, Heart, Scandal w/Patty Smyth and the Divinyls.
Give it a visit, some "old friends" are waiting for you... ;-)

You can find the first two Spider albums on one cd at Amazon.com. I just got it and it's every bit as good as I remember. Now, if only I could find a copy of the New Romance video.

Oh, by the way, Amanda Blue( now Amanda Leigh) was Spider's lead vocalist. Holly played keyboards and sung backup vocals.
