amazing...and very useful
I have just found out that I can save and organise my pdfs in iTunes. This probably won't mean a lot to PC users, although the Windows version of iTunes allows them to do the same, because they tend not to use pdfs in the same way as Mac users. OSX graphics are based on pdf technology and the ability to save documents as pdf is built into the system. I use pdfs a lot, but until now they've just sat in a folder along with other documents. Storing them in iTunes will allow me to tag the documents and to set up smart playlists. When you click on the pdf it opens in Preview, or Acrobat Reader. Now, that is very cool. I found out about this great feature at macOSXhints.

Just testing the comments because Steve said they don't work.

And now it works...
OK, so I was just gonna ask what do you use PDFs for anyway? I have the capability to use them, but seemingly not the need.

It's funny you should ask that Steve. There are a few reasons why you would want to use pdfs:
1. Adobe have done a great job of making the format virtually universal. It is estimated that something like 95% of computers have the free Acrobat Reader installed. So it is much more likely that you others will be able to read your document, unlike with Word, or whatever.
2. Not sure of the technology behind all this stuff, but pdfs keep all the formatting, fonts, images etc in place. The document you make is the document that others see, again unlike Word, or whatever. This is why pdf has become a standard in the print industry.
3. Security. It is difficult for others to change the document that you have created. For most computer users, probably 90%, it would be nigh on impossible. For the rest, they would probably know how to, but you can lock them out very easily.
4. The compression is exellent. Your documents are smaller.
5. Navigation. It is a million times easier to navigate long documents because you can set up bookmarks which are displayed in a side bar, with thumbnails, if you like. You can also set up hyperlinks too. You can do this in other apps too, but the sidebar view makes it all much easier to use.
6. They are cool.

Any idea where bullet points disappear when you save a Word document as a PDF?

Ah yes, I have that same problem sometimes. The answer is simple: Apple think bullet points are evil.

LOL!
I think I'd say they're a bit insane, really, bullet points.
Well, there is something dotty about them.
