cairo...
I've always had a fascination with Egypt. When I was a kid I used to be obsessed with the ancient pharohs and their pyramids. It took me many years to realise that my interest was influenced in part by the fact that my grandfather is Egyptian. I've never met him, and I don't even know if he is still alive. My dad could talk for hours about some book or other that he had read about the pharohs and yet never mention that my mum's dad is Egyptian. I come from one of those f**ked up families where people can disappear for no apparent reason. Anyway, this is all an introduction to the fact that I have downloaded the most amazing collection of maps of Cairo. The only problem is that they are all in Arabic. This has been a real labour of love for someone. The 85 images are perfect and they go from street level maps to this fantastic image of Cairo taken from orbit. Why would anyone do that? I think I'm going to keep them as a little tribute to the effort he made. I just know that it was a boy who did it. There is something strangely male about the whole enterprise.
