tadaa...
I thought it was about time that I unveiled the new design for our blog. There is still a little bit of work to be done on it, but I have been fiddling with it for a month, and it never seems to be right, so I thought I would publish and be damned. It's a little buggy and some of the toolbar links don't work yet, but they will soon. I started this with the idea in mind that I would have it ready to mark our first anniversary of blogging, but that didn't quite work out the way that I'd planned. For those of you who are interested, I made it using Rapidweaver 3, Dreamweaver MX and Photoshop CS. It's loosely based on a Rapidweaver template, but I can't remember which one. I have looked at in all the major browsers and it seems to work okay, but I only have the Mac versions of the browsers. I would appreciate any comments, especially from you Windows users out there. Screenshots would be even more appreciated. By the way, this is the third new design that I have done over the last few weeks, and maybe they will see the light of day yet.
As a special treat, I thought I would republish the very first post that we made on 17 November 2003, it is called starting over:
I have made one of these blogs before, but messed it up when I tried to remap the domain. I decided it was easier to start over than try to sort out the mess, although really I decided to remake the site. I was going to keep a blog all by myself, but as soon as my wife saw what I was doing she wanted to be part of it. We do everything together. We have matching shell suits that we wear at the weekend. Mrs McMuffin wears pink, and mine is a lovely shade of blue, which is a boys colour, by the way. Don't make any mistake about this, I am all man. Anyway, enough of that...I am not sure what I am going to write about, but I am going to try to make at least one entry every day. Welcome to our blog...

You're right. It's still very buggy. But at least I can see bits of it, which is a big improvement over some other re-designs that you've done.

Sweet Jesus, this is beautiful. The sort if kitchy, modern, 50's graphic at top is wonderful. Man, great job. Really.

I sent you a screengrab as I'm a windows user.

i am sick as a sick thing from sickland in sick universe (over indulgence of an extrodinary nature during birthday weekend or just plain food-poisoning... the latter i think - damn those pesky crab-cakes), and i can still compliment you on your redesign. I would like to open up a debate, however, on the significance of the bowl of oranges on the floor...... i'm sure its a sign....

oo-la-la - it is divinely elegant and so McMuffiny. I am awed by your prowess!

Very nice. Looks good in Firefox under Windows.
Are they oranges or tomatoes?

You have given me an inspiration: From now on, when I want a piece of Mrs. DocLee's mind I will access it directly. Good job, Mr. McM.
Also the new design looks nice.

I can barely read the small blue links on my new flat screen monitor :-(...but I do like the banner :-)

still love the design ...except for the pale blue links on left hand side - they are very pale on my new monitor (and yes I have checked the brightness settings etc..) Fraid I can't read them until I mouse over on them and then they become dark enough to read. Similair links can be read on eat your carrotts and Boblog

It's a bit of a mystery, but I'm guessing that you got a really good deal on your monitor. I can read them fine, and no else has said anything about them, yet. Maybe you monitor needs some kind of calibration. By the way, the colour I am using is #90c1ef, if that's any help.
