old lady
I have to confess that I avoided mentioning yesterday that I have been a little under the weather as I have decided that I must stop making excuses for everything I mess up. I am very very good at these excuses because I actually beleive them. However, I do recall saying to Gypsy Tart that I couldn't remember how to highlight when I had the foil in my hand and the bleached mixed up. I'm only saying this so that anyone who wants to pay for an all expenses trip to the US to colour their hair should have no compunction about booking the flights.
I left the house today to see my parents and spent a couple of happy hours with them and Gypsy Tart working on the family tree, which has become a bit of an interest for my sister. She brought down boxes of old photographs and papers to get a bit more background and we managed to get another twenty or so relatives drawn in on the tree. My Dad recalls an old rhyme, which I'll try to spell, as my Welsh is terrible:
Hen fenyw fach Cydweli
yn gwerthu losin du
un ar ddeg am ddimai
ond dau ddeg i mi
This translates loosely as:
The old lady of Kidwelly
sells black sweets
eleven for a ha'penny
and twenty for me
My Dad always thought that this referred to his Mamgu who had a sweet shop in Cydweli and that it had been made up for him. I think someone may have altered it for him, as it is slightly different to the version I found online. I think that's really sweet.
