imitation of life

My name is Mrs McMuffin and I am an addict. I am addicted to trash tv. My partner is not codependant and acknowledges, but does not support my addiction. He would be saddened to hear that if he were not in my life I would watch 'America's Next Top Model', 'Extreme Makeover' and shows of this nature until my eyes bled. I would never go to work or leave the house and would probably not bother to get off the settee. I would probably even watch this years 'Big Brother'. Last night I watched 'Wife Swap' and tonight I watched 'Supernanny' and ANTP. I loved them all.

We recently ordered a copy of 'Imitation of Life' (both versions on one disc) for Ms Ginger Cake as this is the film that makes her sob her eyes out. The last time she was over here we spent about two hours trying to track down the Mahalia Jackson song for her and couldn't buy or steal it anywhere. Mr McMuffin has taken the song from the DVD and put it on disc for her. He has also recorded the final scene with the soundtrack and for good measure thrown in a reggae album of Dark Side of the Moon. He then added the original. This is one of the reasons I love him. He can be a grumpy git, make a pigsty of a clean house and moan non stop about his job, but at the end of the day he is very considerate and likes to do nice things for people without any thought as to what he might get back.

That is indeed a very admirable character trait. :-)

Hear hear, Mr. McMuffin is indeed a most kind and considerate man. I can fully concur. He's a sharer of the highest order.

What is it about watching other people's train wrecks that is so fascinating?
Wife Swap is headed here finally this fall. I couldn't watch that model one because I really wanted to belt Tyra Banks on several occasions, but give me Extreme makeover, Extreme home, Extreme..well you get the gist. Husband just moans and groans and can't believe I would watch that trash...tee hee.

You're in for a real treat with "wife swap'. You can also justify it as research if you are training as a family therapist-it was required viewing on one course!

Well Dahlin', I was given the sheet music to Trouble of the World, (from the Motion Picture "IMMITATION OF LIFE" as sung by Mahalia Jackson) some time last year by a fellow Cabaret singer here in Los Angeles..... it's a beautiful traditional Negro Spiritual;however, there are no dates or composers names listed, which is usually the case with traditional music. It is on the released album The Essential Mahalia Jackson [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] If that will help you. I'm on a quest to find "Empty Arms" the song dubbed for Susan Kohner's burlesque act in that same movie. I did find these names associated Composer (Music Score): Frank Skinner, Henry Mancini (that was a pleasant surprise.... since I sing a number of his songs)and Songwriters: Paul Francis Webster (who I absolutely adore and wrote the title song), Sammy Fain, Frederick Herbert, Arnold Hughes. Just like me to want the "hoochie" song as opposed to your wanting the religious one..... Oh Well.

I have a Mehalia Jackson Greatest Hits with Trouble Of The World. Also the Movie Soundtrack for Lady Killers with Tom Hanks has three different versions your friend may like. As for you being a trash tv addict, I am sure you are a dreamer as well. Thats what is wrong with the world today. People are afraid to dream. Have a good day!
