sunhouse...
I have been listening to one of my favourite albums. It's Crazy On The Weekend by Sunhouse. A great album full of melancholic songs which recall lost opportunities and wasted lives. I love the album, but listening to it always makes me feel sad. The lead singer has been compared to Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley. The band imploded shortly after the release of their first album in 1997. I came across a fan website which had this email written in 1999 from Gavin Clarke, the lead singer, explaining why the band split up. "Money, alcohol, mental instability from singer Gavin. Its been over a year now since the band had any contact. Gavin is working on a new record to be completed in early 2000, Paul is now living in France with a girl he met on tour, Rob works at Marks and Spencer, and Dom the part time drummer is a plumber. 'My heart beats out of time with the high society I climb on a jumpstarted mind'."
These are two of my favourite tracks from the album, although there really isn't a duff track on it. The first is Crazy On The Weekend, and the second is Hard Sun, which has Sinead O'Connor on backing vocals. I guess, this was another lost opportunity.

One of my all time favourite albums too.
Lips , Hurricane, Spinning Round The Sun are great tracks too. But you're right there isn't a duff one here. I have long searched for more stuff by these guys...What a crying shame that that was it.

Hi,
Check out Clayhill, that is Gavin Clarke the leadsinger of Sunhouse, a little different, but still the same voice...

Thanks for that. I had no idea that he had sorted himself out. I've now read a couple of interviews with him and he seems to be okay. The music sounds great. His voice is wonderful. Their ep and album both released last year have had great reviews. I can't seem to find them on any of those free sites, so I guess it's time to get the wallet out...Oh, and they're playing a gig in London next Thursday. I'll see if Mrs McMuffin fancies going to see them.

You're very welcome. I wanted to go see them tonight but left it too late to get tickets. Maybe we'll go down to Brighton and see them.

Dan, Are you saying there is a band called Clayhill with Gavin Clarke doing vocals? That's gigging now? I've been trying to find him for years. The label and former management company were no help. I'll do a search on Clayhill. Anyway, I've searched over there years and never found anything. Thanks for the info!!!

Hi,
I saw Clayhill at the Larmer Tree festival, Wiltshire, Uk at the weekend and they were superb. Even had a chat with Gavin after the gig, which was an unexpected surprise. Very nice chap. Get hold of anything you can by Clayhill, it possibly even surpasses the greatness of Sunhouse.
Cheers,
Jake.

Hi
I actually live very close to Dom (drummer)who is now a builder, Rob is still at M & S and the last I saw of Paul was about 18 months ago when he had returned from France (single)and was renovating the celing of the British Museum in London, working n a pub and had done some work with michael Kamen (who unfortunately died soon after). i understand that Paul has some session work planned. As for sunhouse you can get the album on Amazon (and Clayhill). Interestingly - for me - before the launch of Sunhouse album Paul & Gavin did a preview of a three tracks round my house after the pub one night.

24/12/6 Dom is now a very successful and rich property developer! Rob works for Dom.
Dunno about Gavin and Paul at the moment.

Bet Dom told you that after a few pints of Pedigree and a few cigs he 'bowwowed' off ya! Dream on Dominic Dillon, dream on!
