madeira...

madeira

I only have time for a quick post. I have been writing a huge report all day and I am determined to keep going until it is finished, no matter how long it takes. But, I just thought I would tell you how much I hate travel companies. I phoned a few of them yesterday trying to get a good deal for our trip to Madeira. Each and every one of them started off by asking me if I had been quoted any prices yet. After I had heard this about a dozen times, I said to the woman, "just tell me how much the holiday costs." She responded by immediately putting me on hold. I disconnected of course. Another offered a great deal. She asked if she could phone me back in a few minutes, so that she could have the time to put our details on the computer. When she phoned back, she told me that the price had risen by £50. Needless to say, I told her to get lost, even though it was still quite a good deal. I hate them all and their cowboy tactics. Could imagine buying a pair of trousers from M&S only to be told when you got to the checkout that the pockets cost an extra tenner. Why can't they just advertise the cost of the holiday?

Anyway, I am now toying with the idea of not booking anywhere until Sunday. I am sure we could get a great deal on a Monday flight. What do you think?

I am losing my sense of humour. I really need a holiday.

That picture just makes me think "No, don't do it; don't jump!" (especially after your death-defying post the other month).
I'm lost with this post, is it just sarcasm/irony (I'm never sure of the difference)? Surely you're already booked for Madiera?
I love travel companies, friendly and helpful is all I've ever found, and TravelWise are always keen to beat the best price you've found elsewhere, so go to them last.

Oh, with the excpetion of an "online" company that offers cheap on-airport parking. I rang for a quote and when I told them "But that's 10 pound more than just paying at the gate" she said "Then pay at the gate" and slammed the phone down. Bad day? PMT? Who knows.

Yeah wait for a late deal on a Monday flight -they seem to be popular. Just love that amazing landing on the runway in the ocean too! We got a good late deal last October. No arguing on those Levada walks mind! Nice pic by the way. You can see mine at http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/e376/46228/

I have no knowledge of such matters. But I do have a question: how much money do you think you could save with this game of chicken? Enough to make it worth it for the destruction of your peace of mind? And will it mean that you start your holiday on an exhiliatory high from having got a bargain, or will you feel extra tense from having spent a few days not knowing if you were even going to be able to go on holiday or not? Yes, I think the answer lies in the amount that the expected savings would be, and whether or not you have a Plan B that you would be satisified with.

I don't actually think it's about the money for Mr McMuffin, he's just inyo the idea of a last minute deal and being bloody minded.

I am less calm about all this last minute planning and will probably have booked a holiday by Saturday.

I am terribly jealous because husband and I have not had a real holiday since about 2001. Sure we have some long weekends, but that is still in Maine where Mom and and I shop, cook, clean and do laundry. I must work on a holiday, I must work on a holiday.....
I do expect Mr. m to take that new camera for some of those macro zoom shots of his. We fully expect some lovely picies.
Have you ever thought about renting a property instead of staying in a resort/hotel? it is nice to feel like you "live" in a place instead of just visiting.

Really...Are you sure...They seem so sincere, and honest, and clearly people of discerning taste. What would be the point of spamming something like that? Oh, I am supposed to go to their site. Well, I am a lazy bugger, and haven't bothered.
