making faces
I was hypnotised by the TV tonight and then Mr McMuffin came in, asked what poo I was watching and got hypnotised too. It was a show from the US called 'Extreme Makeovers' where ugly people get plastic surgery and less radical interventions (such as a bit of sorely needed fashion advice) and are transformed.
They looked great, seemed confident and were a lot happier than they had been before. I wanted to despise this show, now I want to be on it. Well only if I don't have to have surgery, obviously.
A good night's sleep seems to have improved my looks, but not my mood. Mr McMuffin drank a bit too much wine last night and couldn't be persuaded to move from the settee. I covered him with a blanket and enjoyed having the bed to myself for once and not being forced to listen to Mr McMuffin speaking Albanian.
I am pissed off being back at work and my swear rate is now one 'fucking bastard' per minute. In fact I sound so much like an Old Salt, am thinking of having the hope and anchor tattooed on my forearm. I found out that I have been booked in to attend more database training tomorrow (a 'management overview') and am really pissed off about that. In fact I am pissed off completely with work. I knew it was a mistake to have time off, it's too fucking bastard hard to go back.

I don't want to say 'I told you so' about going back to work being hard. But...
;-)
I'm glad the extreme makeover thing was worth watching - I taped it out of morbid curiosity and will probably watch it at the weekend - if I can find a minute when I'm not bloody working!

Aw kids. Sorry to hear your about your general ennui, but I sympathize.
Extreme makeover is nothing compared to 'The Swan' (http://www.fox.com/swan/). After the extreme makeover portion the 2 'contestants' are then 'judged' to see who can enter the final Swan competition.
I agree it is like watching a train wreck. You can't avert your eyes, because you just *need* to see the after.
People here are complaining about how they are destroying women's ego's by showing these programs. But I think I have to say, even though they are shallow and surface oriented, the women are infinitely happier with the final result. The question is, does the quality of life improve because they *feel* better about themselves OR is it a shallow excersize that wears off after the cameras stop rolling and the go back to the daily grind of their lives.
I've often felt that all of these reality programs would better suit the world if they provided follow-up 6 months or a year later. But sadly by then, we have already forgotten they existed.
Sorry for the diatribe.....

My daughter is hooked on that show. I must confess though that I've never seen it. I feel bad enough about my own looks, so it doesn't do a damn bit of good for me to watch people who feel the same way and then get to be on tv looking like movie stars when it's all over.
Bastards.

Just goes to show that we women find this stuff fascinating whether good or bad. I can't decide whether young men's insecurities about their looks are progress for women, or just a symptom of this mad world.
