so cold...

...We won't be blogging much tonight as our boiler has stopped working. We only have a tiny fan heater, and my fingers are too cold to type for long. Mr McMuffin is trying to get it going, so I fear for our safety. I also fear that I shall get frozen to the bed tonight. Why couldn't it have given some warning, or waited until it was warmer? The only considerate part of this is that Gypsy Tart and Rock Cake are going to Egypt tomorrow, so we can nip over and use their bathroom.

I take it all back, Mr McMuffin done fix it! He is boy wonder and I love him more that ever, I just want to know why he didn't wave his magic wand 3 hours ago. I am eternally ungrateful.

You is, my dear. Mrs MacMuffin is so uncharitable. I thought she was made of sterner stuff than that.....Mrs Macmuffin, just you remember back to Crumblin' Cottage, now that was cold!

Was that the place in Derbyshire where it was so cold that the chemical toilet froze over, and our breath froze on the ceiling and rained down on us the next morning?

Oh happy days, I was so glad to wimp out and return home early after ingesting an almost lethal dose of paracetomol as I was in such pain I lost count.

Must be the time of year (= winter). Our boiler packed in last week. Or not quite - but it started making explosions when it ignited which was quite alarming. The gas man said it was very dangerous and we weren't allowed to use it again till it got a new part. Lucky that only took an hour or so, or we'd have had dinner by primus stove. Which had a certain appeal about it, we were more than a little disappointed!

Do you cook on your boiler then ? Ha ha, I am being silly, I have worked out that they turned your gas off and you have a gas cooker.

I am interested to know that you didn't immediately phone for a pizza, clearly you are both made of sterner, more adventurous stuff than Mr McMuffin and I. We could hardly be bothered to even think about getting the boiler fixed tonight, and almost decided not to as we don't want to keep it where it is when we do the kitchen up. As this is not likely to happen for years, we had madly consigned ourselves to a bloody cold couple of years. In fact, as I type I am beginning to realise that we really are crazy, and I don't mean in a cute meg Ryan kind of way, more in a kind of seriously disturbed type way. I'd better stop NOW!

No, we cook on electric, silly. But the thought of being in the cold with no heating kind of brought out the "outdoor survivalist" in us and we thought we'd really get into it and cook by primus. And it would help to use up all those gas canisters and tinned food that we bought in preparation for the Y2K meltdown.

...and you don't think you were hardy enough to be a Venture Scout? You would have got your rufty tufty badge for this alone.

We were so hyped to do this "survivalist" thing when the heating broke that we were gonna go out into the hills and trap our own rabbits. Then we remembered we're vegetarian, so we stayed at home with a can of beans.
